ABOUT TOM LISBOA

 

Tom Lisboa holds a Master's degree in Photography and Urban Cultures, from Goldsmiths, University of London and a Master's degree in Communication and Languages, from the Tuitui University of Paraná. He works as a visual artist, professor of cinema and photography, independent curator and has been living in Curitiba since 1987. 

 

In 2020, he received the Aldir Blanc Cultural Recognition Award from the state of Paraná (Brazil). In 2018, he was awarded by the British government the Chevening Awards, an international scholarship program that allows professionals with leadership qualities from more than 160 countries and territories to undertake postgraduate studies or courses at universities in the UK. In 2012, he received the FUNARTE Marc Ferrez Photography Prize and, in 2005, the Porto Seguro Photography Award, in the contemporary research category, with the (in) visible polaroids series. That same year, it was also one of the selected artists of Rumos Itaú Cultural.

New Maurilias is his fourth book. In 2004, he published his master's dissertation entitled "Between the Oscar statuette and the Oscar of the statuette"; in 2011, the photo book of the ballet 'O Grande Circo Místico', by Chico Buarque and Edu Lobo; in 2013, the result of his experience in "LOCATION urban action: PARANÁ" (sponsored by the Marc Ferrez Award).

In 2013 and 2018 he was curator of CLIF - Curitiba Light Image Photography), worked in the curatorial team of the Curitiba International Biennial (2009, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017) and was a member of the Photovisa (Russia) jury team in 2019 and 2020.

He was one of the guest artists at the Cerveira Biennial (2013), in Portugal; Photovisa (2015), in Russia and Encuentros Abiertos (2008), in Argentina. He also participated in the main photography festivals in his country (Paraty em Foco, Fest POA, Foto Arte, Semana da Foto in Curitiba).
